A fierce defender of the status quo, J. Edgar Hoover hated Beatnike, the Black Panthers, and called Martin Luther King, Jr. “the most dangerous Negro in the future of this nation.”
Through the use of his COINTELPRO program, Hoover was able to infiltrate various progressive organizations and tear them apart from the inside. His legacy set the stage for the civil liberties violations currently being perpetrated by various US governmental and quasi-governmental agencies.

Throughout his lifetime, he penned both fiction and non-fiction that explored issues of race and sexuality. He gave very candid interviews on race that have fueled dialogue and freedom fighters for decades.

Through her work, she gave voice to revolutionary ideas about art, love, race, sexuality and gender, among many other things.
